I wonder who he was scouting? Hopefully DeVante Parker rather than Jameis Winston.

Like I said before, let's tank the season for a higher draft pick. The theme is "shame us for Jameis."

We are 5 & 3 currently, MUST I remind you.................

When you look at our depth chart, we are not THAT bad off.

The weakest links are probably LT (although Beachem played well last week), CB (although McCain played well) and SS/TE depth after Troy and Miller (though we've picked some guys there).

Not saying I agree with this, but the plan around here could be to re-sign Worilds, continue to play Beachem/Gilbert/Adams as tackles, get a CB in the draft while keeping the Gay/McCain/Allen trio and hope Polamalu plays a few more seasons (he hasn't missed a snap due to injury in 28 straight games) and Miller keep it up (he looks better now than he did last year).

Would it surprise anyone if the Steelers might consider getting a long-term backup to Roethlisberger if the situation presented itself? Not a Roethlisberger replacement. An Aaron Rogers type investment with a player that could sit for him entire rookie contract. It's an old-school approach, but we are old school around here.

It's way too early to create our off-season plan yet. I haven't studied the salary cap enough or who's up for contracts.

I just wouldn't write off ANY possibility for Colbert/Tomlin at this point.

no. I dont see any way possible we draft Winston.
way too many red flags of immaturity. far too many.

I would tend to agree, but that didn't stop us from taking Roethlisberger. I think most would say that worked out ok.

I'm not sure of what Ben did during college that would equate to Winstons acts. I certainly don't remember him stealing crab legs or jumping on cafeteria tables and yelling **** ******* in da ****.

He was well known for being a douche bag during college and afterwords. Anyone who argues otherwise is simply being a blind and/or lying homer. . Cowher sure didn't want him around here. He seems to have cleaned up his act lately (as far as we know), so let's just be grateful for that.

Cowher never said any such thing. The "Cowher wanted to draft Andrews not Ben" is over blown according to Rooney's book. They were still in discussion about who to pick when Rooney walked in and said he wanted Ben.

Rivers was a class A douche and still is right now. I lived near his family a few years ago so I'm familiar with the situation. He's an *******. But he was drafted high regardless of his piss poor attitude. Marino was an *******. I bet you wanted the Steelers to draft him right?

Wrong. He had no CHARACTER concerns coming out of college. Being aloof at times does not count. As a matter of fact in his college years, early years as a proall that was written was what a good Christian he was, good ol small town boy, etc.Character issues arose, as they often do, with the sudden success and fame.
And it wasn't that Cowher didn't want him. The issue was that Cowher was enamored with the QB from his alma mater; Rivers.
Anyone who states that he had character issues coming out of college is either a lying moron or troll.

Of course. I never said the Steelers shouldn't have drafted Roethlisberger - just that he was known to be an immature douche.

Tell us more about Rivers.

I remember that draft well. I wanted Ben over Rivers because I knew a lot about Rivers and didn't like his side arm throwing motion. I was shocked when Ben was still on the board. The only red flag that I remember about Ben was him playing for a small school and that he holds the ball a long time. I know he never stole crab legs or sign autographs.

Not much to tell other than he is a grade A *******. He's a baby. He is from Decatur, AL. His father was a HS coach and his mom was a teacher. So he was petted most of his life. He was the starting QB in 7th grade and started through HS and college. But his attitude sucked. He's a hard worker but an entitled worker.

Ah, yes, the legend of Saint Benny. smh.

He always seemed like a douche. Never did like him, even when he was at NC State.
Interestingly, most State fans seem to be convinced of what a saintly, Christian-like man he is/was, too. Funny how that works.

I used to work for his ultra-rich uncle here in TN. Says he drinks ONLY Budweiser in cans, which I appreciate.

His uncle maybe a nice guy. Philip isn't.

Or Both....

Yea, Ben actually kept it clean during college. But in all fairness, Ben was widely known as a douchebag his first couple of years in the burgh- even before the 'accusations'.

Winston's problems aren't really character flaws (fighting, drugs/alcohol, not working hard, disrespectful to coaches), his issues are purely maturity. Which is understandable for a 20 y/o in college. Hell, we all have done some dumb sh*t in college.

I just think that him and Ben share a lot of qualities and Ben would be a good mentor for guiding him to maturity. It would be a great transition to have a Ben-like QB waiting in the wings 2 years down the line. I just cant see us using the necessary 1st round pick to grab him and there is no way he slides to the 2nd...
