I have a feeling before the end of the season Wesley Johnson mans the RT spot. I just don't see Gilbert being the guy. He's heavy footed, slow, waist bender, over extends, get pushed around. I mean the only good aspect of his game is run blocking but in pass blocking you might as well throw my *** out there.

I know no one will agree with me, but I think before the season is over Adams will be the starting RT or LT.

I think they're going to lock up Gilbert. Wesley Johnson will make it but likely as the utility guy Beachum was last season. Gilbert gets a lot of **** but he performed adequately last season, and not every position on the o-line can be a high priced signing.

I think Mike Adams value, will continue upwards. I just think he needs time under his belt, so to speak, to develop more. Weather or not he can develop before the season is over or not, will depend hugely on him.
Good luck to him as the better players are / become, the better the team gets !!

Adams and Gilbert do not fit this blocking scheme. For that matter neither does Foster but he has shown he can get the job done so I doubt anyone pushes him from his position at least this year. I just don't see Gilbert being a Steelers after his contract is up and the same with Adams. If they had ANY trade value I would say trade them both but I doubt we could get a six pack and a pound of jerky for them.

If Adams is the starting LT Ben will be getting killed again... just like the first 4 games last year. Adams is NOT a LT.

Adams is more athletic and more talented than Beachum form what I understand. He just needs better coaching, conditioning, and effort. If he puts it together he is the better player than Beach, and Gilbert.

Geez, I hope Adams gets a stab at starting.

I expect Adams to take over the RT spot, extend him to a friendly contract and kick Gilbert to the curve if he wants starter money

Adams over Gilbert for sure. Adams just need stronger and more xperience to b a good starting RT. Gilbert should be traded to the rats so he can decimate their O-line.

there was another article stating that Adams was pushing both Beachum and Gilbert. I also think that before Adams was hurt he was a better right tackle than Gilbert. It is actually a nice position to be in with these young guys improving. We have another late round utility pick this year that make take Beachum's initial role as a backup everywhere. One thing to keep in mind is the fact that they may shift some guys around to field the best 5. If Adams improves on the left side and Gilbert makes a leap in play Beachum could move to left Guard moving foster to back up. We could then have Adams, Beachum, Pouncy, DeCastro, Gilbert as starters with Wallace Foster and the new kid as back ups.

Just one possibility of many, as I think this year the training camp battles may actually amount to something.

How long has it been since that statement has been used. I think you are right though.

Adams will be a always be a subpar lt pushed there to early, he needs to first show he can be reliable at rt before any consideration for lt.

2014
beachum foster pouncey decastro gilbert/adams

2015
beachum jhonson pouncey decastro adams

Adams doesn't have the feet for LT. Did you even watch him last year? He was beyond awful. If you think he just needs better coaching, conditioning and effort then shame on him for stealing money the past few years.

Adams and Gilbert are more built for a power run game and block the guy in front of you quick pass attack offense. I just don't feel either will ever be better than below average in our scheme.

Just what I heard Vader. I know Adams stunk last year, but he did have a pretty crazy offseason and it was the first year trying to do a lot of zone.

Truer words were never typed on this board.

They didn't run much zone after Pouncey went down. Also how can a rookie 7th round pick come in and just take your position away from you? Adams was a 2nd round pick with knowledge of the system. Beachum got very little work yet still made Adams look bad. Adams is not and has never been an NFL caliber LT. He doesn't have the feet for it. At best he is a below average RT but he sucks at pass blocking even on the easier right side.

What no love for Beachum?

Dude is another Tunch Ilkin, a Carleton Hasslerig without all the crazy. We should be celebrating this news, not predicting when he will get beat out by the higher draft pick.

Glad Munchak sees it.

Seriously, getting a capable LT at the end of the draft (I believe he was the 4th of the 4 draft picks we had in the 7th round a couple years ago) is an incredible coup. I think Beachum's ascent will continue unabated...he is a seriously smart guy who works his *** off and who is now being coached by one of the best.

Man, when he first started playing, it looked like he was going to be terrible. Glad for him, and the team, that his hard work has paid off.

I'm holding off my accolades for Beachum until I see an entire season from him at LT. I have been keeping up on him and from all accounts the kid has the brains and better yet the desire to be an NFL LT. I will be the first to say I was not impressed with him as a draft prospect. Thought he would have to kick inside to guard or center and was limited physically. But what I have seen since is he is a very cerebral player who understands blocking schemes and techniques extremely well. He uses his hands well and has awesome feet placement. From what I have read is he took his offseason serious and got to work. He lifted, ran, and got stronger and faster. He also got coached up and is improving his technique. I like guys like that.

That being said he is 6-3 33 inch arms and has some physical limitations that I want to see him prove for an entire season before I anoint him the future LT of the Steelers for the foreseeable future.
