Steelers Might Have to Win Out to Make Playoffs

It was looking a lot better a few weeks ago, but the Giants gave the Jets a win yesterday.

KC has a cake walk of schedule and can still lose one if we don't win out.

The Jets have Patriots and Bills at end of schedule, but Pats are now looking beatable.

Obviously, Win out and we're in...

We can afford 1 loss the rest of the way IF the Jets drop one.

Then we're in.

Win out and KC wins out, we're the 6th seed regardless of what the Jets do.

We win out and KC drops one, we're the 5th seed and the Jets are the 6th seed IF they win out.

We win out and KC AND the Jets drop one, We're the 5th seed and KC is the 6th seed.

We drop one, and the Jets drop one, regardless of what KC does, we're the 6th seed. (Barring a KC meltdown, obviously. They have to keep pace with the Jets...)

We drop one, Jets win out, we're out.

And there you have it.

Niether the jets nor kc are good enough to end the year on those kinds of streaks.. Parody says both will drop a winnable game...

Technically the jetscould lose to dallas and then win out and any loss we would have would catapult them ahead of us

Doesn't sound accurate or the Steelers would be in 6th right now. The Steelers AFC record will kill them in any tie breaker.

The Chiefs are going to end up 11-5. And yet some yinzers who post here will still insist that our loss to the Chiefs (you know with Landry Jones making his first career start at Arrowhead) was yet another example of a Tomlin-led team losing to a team with a poor record.

We play the #1 & #2 seeds in our conference the next two weeks. Lets revisit this after the next two games to see where we are. The margin for error is very slim.

KC should win out based on who they play. We have to hope they **** the bed in one of those games and we can win out. Getting the 6 seed would give us New England as of today. Right now the 5 seed would give us the AFC South champ.

If the Steelers are already out I can't imagine we jump the Chiefs/Jets in any scenario we have identical records. If the Steelers go 3-1 the rest of the way, the Jets or Chiefs have to lose 2 games for us to move ahead....no way the Chiefs drop 2 of their remaining. It's already playoffs for the Steelers.

If we finish strong, our AFC record looks a whole lot better. Going 10-6 would give us a 7-5 conference record. The Jets are 5-4 in the AFC right now, so if they lose one more to an AFC team we will have the same conference record as them.

Totally wrong. We are behind the Jets based on them being 5-4 in conference and we're 4-4. If we both end up 7-5 in conference, we will be ahead of them based on the 3rd tiebreaker (record in common games).

Yep i have had to fire a dozen texts out to news sources that fail to grasp this... There was a situation years back when people couldnt understand a simular situation... This isnt college... Being ahead in the tiebreakers now doesnt always mean it will hold up to the end if you win out

Oh, Pittsburgh is definitely in playoff mode... There's no doubt about it. I would rather they NOT lose any games from here on out.

That may not be entirely realistic though. Either the Bengals away or the Broncos game could end up being a loss. Of course the Ravens or even the Browns could surprise them too. Honestly, anything could happen. There simply isn't any margin for error.

Thanks for the clarification....I couldn't wrap my head around it, good to know.

Win out and we are not in. We currently sit at No. 7 behind the Chiefs and Jets.

The Jets or Chiefs have to lose one more game than us for us to get in. They both have the tie breakers on us. The Chiefs have about as easy a schedule as they possibly could. I can easily see them winning out as they are on a roll. We needed to beat them. The Jets still play the Patriots. I believe this weekend. We have to hope NE beats them and hopefully someone else.

We have a very tough schedule remaining with 3 division games. The next 2 games are against the Bungles and Broncos, both sitting at 10-2. Then we are on the road against division rivals, Cleveland and the Ratbirds. We should win those 2 games but being in the division and on the road, anything is possible.

If we lose one game the rest of the way, either the Chiefs or the Jets have to lose 2 for us to get in unless that tiebreaker thing with the Jets kicks in.

Win out and we pass the Jets in common games tiebreaker

You are incorrect. According to ESPN simulator if we win out the jets win out and Chifs win out we are the 6th seed. we would all finish 7-5 in the AFC and go to other tie breakers. you cannot use the tiebreakers as they currently stand.

Win out and they are in for sure. There is no way three teams win out. The most realistic scenario and the one that concerns me the most is a one loss by all teams scenario. Anyone know that one for sure.

Right now the Steelers are on the outside looking in. I am thinking the Jets or Cheifs will have to lose a game moving forward, When the season ends the Steelers will have to have one more game than them. Unless winning out for all three teams would change the tiebreaker scenario....

The Chiefs have two games against division rivals in Oakland and SD. Now, on paper, those should be wins.......but.......those are games vs hated rivals and anything is possible. Oakland should have won that game yesterday....too many miscues.....SD can score on anybody and Rivers would love nothing more than to stick it to KC and kill their PO chances. Nothing is a given........

But I do see our playoffs as being already started as of yesterday.....I don't wanna think about losing another game...it might take 11-5 to get in by virtue of CIN, NE, DEN, AFCS winner getting bids. We aren't dead yet but the paper our will is to be written on is being loaded on the printer. I think we take Cincy next week. Denver, Cleveland and Baltimore await.

You're wrong. If we win out, we're in. We are out - if the playoffs started today - only because the Jets have played one more conference game than we have (they are 5-4, we are 4-4).

There are too many divisions in the NFL and it really should be restructured. Their could be an 11-5 AFC team miss the playoffs while .500 Colts get in. The NFC East Champ may very well have a losing record. It's really not set up to assure that the top 12 teams make the playoffs, rather it creates scenarios where some of the top 12 teams won't make the playoffs.
