Tomlin is not as dumb as many of you think

Yep, he used that timeout perfectly...
also, while I and others would have probably preferred the field goal rather than the 4th down run at the end of the game, there absolutely was a logical reason for it...

There was 30 seconds left.
If you get the field goal blocked, and they run it back for a td, there probably is 20 seconds left for them to recover the onside kick and run some play to score

If they failed on the fourth down, the ball is 90 yards away with like 26 or 27 seconds left... its going to be almost impossible to score twice against a D in that time..

All in all a decent coaching day for him

Meh.....Rodgers goal was to get the 12th man on the field or......get the Steelers to take a TO. So who won? Rodgers or Tomlin?

Tomlin is not stupid. Far from it! Sure, he makes some questionable decisions at times but the man is not a stupid man by any means.
I’ve gotten damn frustrated by him over the past 18 seasons but like I’ve said in another post, if you’re going to criticize him you better be willing to praise him when he does well.

Thanks for a post showing what most people miss in games. That was wicked watching it on TV and I love both camera angles. AR knew he could get an easy 1st. Tomlin caught him and got the TO before he could do it. Perfect chess move and the tip of the cap was AR recognizing he got beat at his own game by the smarter football man.

Watch scoring and possession at the end of half and end of games guys. We are killing it this season (outside of Dallas's great play to beat us). If only we landed on that fumble...

exactly (though it might have been 4th and 5)

Steelers had a two score lead and just needed to stop the jets...a 1st down there could have led to a jets TD and made the game more exciting for the final 7 minutes
You're right. 4th and 5. Still an automatic 1st down instead of getting the pass blocked at the LOS on 4th down! Tomlin got AR twice with that call!!!

I looked at this completely differently. DeShon Elliott was upwards 20 yards on the Jets side of the field celebrating the previous play and the Steelers substitution on the play was a mess. It was obviously four-down territory and the Steelers weren't prepped at all for it. Tomlin did save a crucial penalty, but it is a situation they should've avoided in the first place.

He FINALLY makes a good call using a TO and everyone thinks he is a genus. He makes FAR MORE boneheaded calls/non calls than great ones.

I don't think it was a great call. His team got caught substituting when the Jets didn't. They tried to get a easy 5 yards via penalty. Tomlin was forced to call a TO so we wouldn't take the penalty.

A lot of people fixate on mistakes, like his issues with correctly throwing a challenge flag, but those people all miss his game to game consistency in time management, player preparation (especially in injury, next man up situations), and succeeding through difficult team situations that would absolutely turn a winning team into a basement dweller. He navigates the locker room, eliminates selfish players quickly, and helps to recruit NFL talent that wants to play for him.

You have every right to not like a coach for whatever reason you want, but you don't consistently win this long in the league by being a bad coach.

Your honor, the defense rests...

How about an average HC?
