Alright, I HAVE to explain this again.
Will you all please forget about the ******* video tape. The video tape is a red herring. It's your David Copperfield slight-of-hand. The video tape is merely a minor part of the puzzle that Ernie Adams needed along with actual coaches with football knowledge.
Here's how the **'s (following Ron's suggestion and using 2 *'s now,) manage the cheat.
A) They filmed the actual plays. This is done all the time and is perfectly legal. All teams do this. Game film is a great tool.
B) They filmed the score board. This gave down & distance and game situation for every given play. This gave the context for which a play (offensive or defensive, was called.)
C) They filmed a coordinator "calling in the play" on the sidelines. This is is illegal. Of course you aren't supposed to be filming the playcalls from the opposing sidelines.
D) They recorded AUDIO signals of the playcalls as well. This is the very MOST IMPORTANT part of the scandal. And the part Roger never wanted ANYONE to know about.
Now, Eric Mangini, who was a coordinator for the Cheaters and later got a job with the Jets called foul to the league when he saw the Cheats repeatedly filming HIS coordinators calling in plays on the sidelines. He knew what was going on and called bullshit. After confronting Belichick and getting nowhere, he finally went to the league and complained. What is VERY VERY IMPORTANT is that there were 2 parts to his complaint.
1) The video taping complaint that we all know so much about.
2) What very few people know about to this day is that Mangini ALSO complained that the **s where also doing a great deal of extra radio recording. and THAT is where the **s make their bread and butter.
This is how the cheaters actually do their work.
Most folks don't realize that Ernie Adams, Belichick's best friend, has a photographic memory. So, what happened for years and years was that the **s filmed other teams, filmed the game situations, and RECORDED the offensive AND defensive signals from the coordinators.
Then they had coaches watch the game film, break down what every single guy was doing on offense and/or defense and essentially learn the language of the opposing teams coordinators. This language was then taught to Ernie Adams. (Ernie has a photographic memory, remember.)
Now, the **s roll into a town, or have a team roll into their stadium and the **s fire up their excessive radio array. (The **s STILL to this day have 3 times as much radio equipment as ANY team in the league.) The **s capture radio transmissions from the OC and DC going to the QB and defensive captain. That signal is relayed to Ernie, who happens to know the opposing team's playbook just as well as that teams coordinator.
Ernie then instantly translates the play into the NE verbiage and radios it down to either Tom Brady's headset or to the **'s defensive captain headset who gets the corresponding team ready for the oncoming play.
Yes. The players still have to make the one on one plays to shut down the play. But they KNOW who the intended receiver is, they KNOW who the secondary receiver is. Or they KNOW who's blitzing and who's dropping back. They KNOW whether it's a disguised cover 2 or a straight man defense. All this let's Tom know who to throw to, how to audible and generally how to look like a really GREAT QB when he's actually a mediocre QB from Michigan who only got to be a starter in the last year or two he was there.
And that's just ONE facet of their cheating program.
And why do they do it? Why cheat when they can beat teams without cheating? Because it's like Madden. If you can beat a team by 45 - 7 in the championship game By GOD you're going to do it.
All I can hope is that with each scandal that is exposed more and more people realize that NONE of the **s players deserve to be enshrined. And again, I think that's kind of a shame. Some of them were and are fine football players but you simply can't honor a legacy that's been tainted by this degree of cheating and duplicity. I can honestly say I would feel exactly the same way if we were finding the same thing out about the Steelers.
Many **'s fans must be feeling overwhelmed with a sickening sense of "Again?" today. I know I have a friend who's a ** fan and I know it irritates the **** out of him when I tell him in complete honesty that I can never respect anything his team has ever accomplished and I can't understand at all how he can call himself a fan at all. He gets this annoyed look on his face and says "You know all teams do the same thing." and I simply respond. "Dude, that's pathetic. You know that's just pathetic, right?" And you can see it in his eyes. Those fans have just sold their souls. It's just empty. Those trophies are completely tarnished.
They really should imprint *'s on them.
