College Football Week 4

Starting to get some better games as the season progresses. Last week had a bunch of interesting rivalries. This week has 4 ranked matchups with a few conference matchups before conference play really kicks in next week.

Friday

24 Illinois at 22 Nebraska 8:00 FOX Neb -7.5
Nebraska 5 star freshaman QB Dylan Raioloa has been great so far. Had a big game vs Colorado but they suck. Illinois will be the first real defense he will face. Ole Miss transfer QB Luke Altmyer is having a good year for Illinois. He had a solid game in the upset of #19 Kansas 2 weeks ago.

Saturday

Kent State at 10 Penn State 3:30 Big Ten Network PSU -49
Bowling Green gave Penn State a good game because they had a 6th year QB and a couple of skill position transfers from SEC schools. They had some dudes and played a great 1st half. Kent State may be the worst team in football this year. They lost to St Francis.

Penn State's defense struggled with the new radio helmets. The home crowd is used to making noise when the oppoent has that ball. That actually hurt PSU in the game as they were having triuble getting plays called on defense. The new helmet communications is a learning process and i assume they will have a better plan going forward.

PSU lost their great safety KJ Winston to an ACL. This should be a game to see a bunch of backups in the last tuneup before Big 10 play starts next week.

Marshall at 3 Ohio State 12:00 FOX OSU -39.5
who picked this game to be the big noon game on fox?

Kansas at West Virginia 12:00 ESPN2 WVU -2
this may be the best noon game of the week. Both teams having disappointing seasons thus far. WVU is coming off the loss to Pitt where they blew a 10 point lead.

11 USC at 18 Michigan 3:30 CBS USC -5
this matchup used to mean Bo was about to choke away a Rose Bowl, but now it's a conference matchup. USC got tonas of credit for beating LSU in week 1 but LSU has not looked like world beaters as they were lucky to beat South Carolina last week. USC has a good offense but it's their defense that is making the difference. It was a joke last year. Now they have a new DC, former Penn State DB D'Anton Lynn and he's doing an outstanding job. His name will start coming up for head coaching gigs soon. Michigan has named running QB Alex Orji as starter. He's only thrown 7 passes in his career. It seems Michigan is going to try to outmuscle USC. If they can't stop USC's offense then that plan could go out the windown like it did vs Texas.

12 Utah at 14 Oklahoma State 4:00 FOX OKST -2.5
this is now a Big 12 conference game. The winner will be in good position for one of the Big 12 title game spots. Utah QB Cam Rising is expected to be back for this one. OKSt has Doak Walker award winner Ollie Gordon at RB. Teams have been ganging up to stop him and OKST has been passing. Their QB Alan Bowman has nerly 100 yards passing in 3 games. QBs Bowman and Rising are both 7th year players.

Vanderbilt at 7 Missouri 4:15 SEC Network Mizz -20
Vandy isn't awful. They have a good win vs Virginia Tech. Mizz is coming off a close win over Boston College. Next week they travel to Texas A&M. Could this be a letdown week for them? I doubt Vandy wins but that 20 points could be tempting.

8 Miami at South Florida 7:00 ESPN Mia -17
Miami is still getting tons of credit for the opening week blowout of Florida, but I'm not sure how impressive that is. Miami QB Cam Ward is now a Heisman frontrunner. He started his career at Univiersity of Incarnate Word, then transferred to Washington State and finally to Miami. South Florida played Bama tough. It was 14-13 Bama at the end of the 3rd quarter, then the wheels came off and they were blown out. Miami always talks about swagger. They have it now but often that swagger leads to them losing to a team they should beat. South Florida is battle tested.

6 Tennessee at 15 Oklahoma 7:30 ABC Tenn -6.5
Tennessee is coming off their big win vs Kent State when they did an onside kick while up 30-0. This is Oklahoma's first SEC game. Tenn coach Josh Heupel won the 2000 national championship as Oklahoma's QB. Tenn's defense has been great so far but not really tested yet. Oklahoma's offense has been spotty thus far. The winner will have an inside track on a playoff spot. We should know a lot more about both teams after this one.

Bowling Green at 25 Texas A&M 7:30 SEC Network TAM -22.5
BG gave Penn State a tough game and then had a bye to prepare for this game. They will have some confidence from that. TAM is flying high after beating Florida and could be looking ahead to Missouri next week. Bowling Green QB Connor Bazelak is in his 6th year. He started out at Missouri then Indiana, now BG. He will be throwng to Auburn transfer WR Malcolm Johnson and TE Harold Fannin, who leads the nation in yards by TE. BG has some skill players.

Baylor at Colorado 8:00 FOX Col -2
Colorado's gameplan is to throw as much as possible to inflate Shedeur's stats. Baylor has an excellent pass defense and Dave Aranda is a great defensive coach. There's rain in the forecast, possibly heavy rain. How will that impact Colorado passing? Colorado is back in the Big 12 to make this a conference matchup. The last time they played, RG3 was at QB for Baylor.

Watching the Neb vs Illinois game
Very entertaining in the first half
first game I have got to watch this year ..... not disappointing

Illinois - Nebraska is a good game, but neither is real impressive.

great game. Nebraska blew it. Raiola is just a true freshman and playing at a high level. He missed that wide open TD and had a few mental lapses but for the most part played a great game against a well coached Illinois defense that showed him some different looks.

Bielama is an excellent coach. He should be on the short list for teams that fire their coach this offseason.

Stupid for Marshall to go for it.

Mysterious illegal formation on Marshall long after Ohio state fumbles punt.

PSU trying to get cute and throw a pick. Just leave Allar in and complete the drive.

How is it Michigan finds themselves without a QB? I think I heard today they only returned one starter on offense.

WVU turned the tables from last week on Kansas and scored 15 to win in the last 5-6 minutes after another long storm delay... Getting too old for this **** but it was fun to watch...

Lots of empty seats.. Those that left missed a hell of a good end to the game.

Penn st trying to break their all time yards total today.
They are up 49-0

a good practice scrimmage for Penn State today. Put a few wrinkles on film for Illinois to prepare for. TE running the wildcat and throwing a TD pass from that formation. Now Illinois will have to burn limited practice time against a formation PSU may not even use.

People like to complain when coaches get conservative and try to run out the clock late in the game with a lead. Lincoln Riley and USC left Michigan a lot of time after throwing two incompletions being aggressive.

That’s the all pro Tight End who didn’t even play!

Welcome to Big Boy football west coast winkies!
That was a big win for them, but I'm surprised that they won. It's hard to fathom being able to run the ball effectively with essentially zero threat of passing. Maybe that part of their offense will improve.

Man these opposing bands for Oaklahoma and Tennessee are annoying. After every friggin play.
