Roby Arrested

looks as pretty minor stuff. Hopefully he falls enough for us to grab him in the second round?

I never understood the Steelers obsession with the OSU guys (Holmes, Heyward, Adams, there was another LB 2-3 years back). Besides Holmes all have underachieved although I think Heyward is finally on his way. Not a very bright move for Roby who was moving up draft boards.

These are just a few of the Buckeyes in the NFL .. not all are stars (name a college program that produces ALL stars in the NFL), but they have for the most part had productive NFL careers. Maybe it's not OSU players, but rather the OSU players we pick.

I think it has to do with semantics here. .008 is actually eight tenths of one percent, .01 is one percent. Many states have changed the legal limit to eight tenths of one percent for prima facia evidence of DUI. Counting against him is the fact that he failed a field sobriety test, and was unresponsive when first approached and did not respond until the officers opened his car. Even if he blew 000 failing the field sobriety test is evidence of impairment and could get him convicted. Breath tests do not detect drugs just alcohol. The only thing that seems to be in his favor might be he was in a car with it not running if that was the case and was sleeping one off.

This law always pissed me off. Why can't they barge into your house and say, we know you were about to go driving? If his keys were not in the ignition who exactly is he hurting by taking a nap in his car? That car is as dangerous as a manatee. Stupid laws are like stupid people, and I have no use for either of them.

I did not say that was the case. It could be different entirely, if the car was running or stalled, in gear, keys in ignition and switched on. I have found drunk drivers in a car on the street passed out behind the wheel with it in drive and the engine running. The article did not provide the particulars but only contained information spun in a way to mislead. The truth of the matter is likely in the police report as to how he was found and what was going on with the car at the time.

I was never impressed with Roby. He's an athlete but I don't think he has good instincts.

"It is illegal in the State of Ohio to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or above. The limit is lower for commercial drivers and drivers under the age of 21. In Ohio a DUI is called a OVI, meaning "Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated".

http://dui.drivinglaws.org/ohio.php

So, if Roby's BAC was .008, it was actually ten times lower than the level required for prima facia evidence of OVI due to alcohol. HOWEVER, this does not mean that there may not have been a "controlled substance" involved, which would automatically bring an OVI charge.

That said, it is being reported that both the Columbus Police Department and the County Prosecutor expect the charges to be dropped.

Still think it's a possibility his stock falls for the sheer stupidity of placing himself in the situation ... two weeks before the draft no less.

I would like to know if he actually drove the car or if he was just sleeping it off in the parking lot of the bar. If he didn't drive the car it's a bulshit charge from the start/

Technically, if the keys are in the ignition, even if the car isn't started, you could be busted for DUI. Ridiculous, but true. Now, his blood alcohol being .008, that's literally like just gargling with mouthwash. This is a whole lotta nothing, and I'm not somebody that wants us to draft Roby.

You just listed all those players like it would impress someone LOL

The only way to legally sleep one off in the car is if you leave the keys outside of it. Preferably under it. No lie.

the truth. it indicates intent. "did he intend to drive the car since the keys were in the ignition"? Obviously no one leaves the keys in the car's ignition.
the new thing that will be coming down the pike is the cars with the push button ignition. if so, you better be asleep in the trunk if you want to sleep one off.

Whether correct legally or not, it is ridiculous. You leave your friend's party get in your car, put the key in, then you make the wise decision that you have had too much to drive. However, you are impaired enough not to think to remove the keys. Sure, you could have gone back in and slept on your friend's couch, but what if it was a bar you left and that isn't an option?

You did the right thing and still get ******.

I'm falling...... fallllllliiing, falling!!!! I hope this is some sort of a wake up call for this young man.

Salute the nation

Let him fall I would be happier then a pig in **** if he fell to us in the 2nd. I am not saying right or wrong on this but come on this is pretty minor, jmo.

.....or wanted to listen to the radio.

I do not know if these two incidents will make him fall. There have been guys with much worse taken in the first round (Jimmy Smith failed a couple drug tests and had some other issues) and he did not fall. To me, it has to be something that will keep the guy off the field or just be so bad teams do not trust the guy or want it associated with the organization.

Both of Roby's incidents are kind of minor on the NFL landscape.

If he falls, it will likely be because of his spotty play on film, not his off-the-field antics.

This.............................

We better not spend the #15 pick on a guy who just seems to be so "incident" prone on top of not always playing up to his natural ability on the field.

No, I listed all those players and stated "Not all are stars (...), but they have for the most part had productive NFL careers ..."

Big difference in intent.
