Initial Thoughts on raven Game

You're a great guy - don't take it personal my maple syrup brother!!!
Just having a little fun with ya my fellow Steeler Brother. If we all agreed on the same things, this world would be a pretty boring place. Remember when the both of us were screaming for Brian Branch when the Steelers picks came up? The guy is an all pro superstar….we certainly agreed on that!😁

Me also…

No one is smarter than us on draft day...

Can the Steelers learn to utilize Justin Fields like the Saints utilize Taysom Hill, or does everybody think it would be too disruptive to the offense? Can what works for the goose work for the gander....because they really should be copying plays from their playbook in my opinion.

Fields needs to be used inside the 10 yard line in the red zone.

We should have won going away. The offense is still a work in progress. I think we can say the Steelers have to be taken seriously.
THIS
Imagine Fields with Najee and Warren out there? Warren has shown he can run, catch and block Linebackers like a FB.

Best part is the Defensive coordinators have zero tape, which could make all the difference.

Great post

I'm not so sure the scenarios are the same...Justin is a legit QB1b and very much a QB1a for many teams in the league today. I don't mind sprinkling him in when the situations present themselves; but my fear is losing Russ during this upcoming gauntlet and all the efforts we've taken to win games now result in Allen having to take the helm and guide us thru the tumultuous waters to...THE SUPERBOWL...

Ok...fair enough even though it doesn't explain why every other team was able to do the same that have about the same amount of chemistry as the Steelers (i.e. Browns did it with Jameis and WRs less known) What about the run game against the Cowboys?

It probably had more to do with the fact that we were leading most of the game. Especially the entire second half. Teams have decimated the ravens pass D when behind late and in pass D

The Bengals rushing total in two games vs the Ravens was 39 carries, we had 34 on Sunday

We were just taking deep shots to loosen up the D... we werent attacking them over the middle to draw the safeties over or anything... it was clear we meant to run on them because we expected them to expect us to be pass happy like everyone else...

Ok so the ravens apparently went 2 high safeties , which affected wilsons passing.. The commanders started this trend apparently. Im parroting a talking head i heard today.

I wasnt impressed with his accuracy on medium passing. I liked the dump offs to najee.

Still havent seen much from our TE's. Wtf is going on. ? Is it really the ineffectiveness of our #2 receivers doing this? Feel free to lend your theories.

I think it just is a red zone hiccup. I don’t think it is a trend. Hiccups don’t last and I don’t think this will last either….

Our players weren't used properly that day.

2 high safeties will open up the run game vs most teams

I watched the game, twice, and, yes, the Ravens played 2 high safeties in both nickel and dime packages to 'limit the big and medium plays down the field'...

I don't think that is our offense's kryptonite - 2 high safeties equates to 'running the ball' because they do not have enough men in the box to stop Najee'. Seam routes are not as easy in this defensive formation either because there aren't a lot of void areas across the field.

Think on these things...

(This is not directed at B&GB - this is to anyone didn't notice it in the game)

The 2 high Safety/ flood the underneath thing got popular a few years back and is why teams started running the ball again. Honestly, it plays right into what Tomlin wants to run... our TOP was 13 minutes higher than theirs... and 2 high s just cutting off the deep passes... had our O executed in the red zone, this is a blowout..

It is 0-2 vs us the past two weeks

The Saints are 4-7. Why would the Steelers want to copy them?

Don’t feel bad…
I thought the Highsmith selection was a horrible pick!
Being a UGA fan I was happy when we drafted Jarvis🤦🏻‍♂️ that feeling went away when he showed he topped out at a college caliber player who just fit into his role in that system and did not have an NFL skill set.

The draft is such a crap shoot fitting the puzzle pieces of availability when selecting, skill set, scheme and current depth chart of team drafting.

For some reason I’m usually great at projection of QB success moving from college to pro but just can’t project when a LB will/won’t be good moving into NFL. I thought Watt would be a B grade player, might have been more wrong about that than Jarvis!! Dude is as A+ as a guy can be

There was warning signs with Jarvis they just chose to ignore them. It was a bad evaluation. Sure there is hits and misses. But the great evaluation teams have a higher percentage of hits.

Sometimes the are weighing a middling player vs a player coming off injury. I think they have changed up their philosophies with Omar and Andy.

It is now more athletic ability and production and level of competition . Take a chance on a player coming off injury if their upside is higher. Higher risk vs reward scenario.

You want to build talent you stockpile and hope for the best.

Harder and harder it seems to find that james harrison, that donnie shell, hines ward,, or AB.

Warren, maybe mccormick, seems like closest thing.

I just have a hard time understanding how we can get a kenny pickett, or Devon Bush without realizing they arent what we should be drafting
