College Football Week 10
I swear I posted this yesterday. Maybe it didn't go through. Anyway let's get right to the game of the week
4 Ohio State at 3 Penn State 12:00 FOX OSU -3
Screw FOX and their big noon that is keeping this from being a night game and a whiteout. Both FOX and ESPN shows will be in Happy valley for this one.
There's actually more pressure on Ohio State for this one. They already have a loss and a 2nd loss puts them on the playoff bubble. Ryan Day is starting to feel some pressure.
If Penn State loses, it will make the fanbase freak out but untimately it may barely change their playoff chances. Even with a loss, they will likely finish 11-1 and get the 5 or 6 seed. If they winm, then they will probably face Oregon in the Big 10 title game and if they lose that, they'll get the 5 or 6 seed.
Injuries on both sides are the main story. Drew Allar was knocked out of the Wisconsin game. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't start but will he have to tap out again?
Penn State will also be without their top DE and likely their starting RT. Ohio State will be starting their 3rd string RT on an OL that has been struggling already.
Penn State has had slow starts. On offense they have started conservatively, testing out how the defense will react to various concepts. On defense, it's more about sloppy play. Under DC Manny Diaz, they were all about man coverage. Now they use more zone and they are blowing assignments in zone.
The Penn State WRs are still a letdown. They aren't making enough plays. So far defenses have played it safe, taking away deep shots. Ohio State has better athletes so they may take more chances and that could actually open up a few more big play opportunities.
Ohio State has great WRs as usual. But they want to run the ball. Penn State has had an excellent run defense. Will Howard is pretty good but struggles with pressure. Penn State can bring pressure.
As I mentioned above, this really isn't a must win in terms of playoffs but it would be a huge win for for the program, a signature win that can build confidence and help recruiting.
Penn State has a real shot to win this. We'll see.
Duke at 5 Miami 12:00 ABC Mia -21
Miami is still unbeaten but they've survived a bunch of close calls against mediocre teams. This game features 2 Cuban coaches Miami's Mario Cristobal and Duke's manny Diaz. Miami fired Diaz to hire Cristobal. You know Diaz wants this one.
19 Ole Miss at Arkansas 12:00 ESPN Miss -7.5
Ole Miss is still alive with 2 losses but just barely. They had hopes of an SEC championship and a deep playoff run after spending a bunch in NIL. Arkansas is a tough team that can pull an upset if Miss takes them lightly.
1 Oregon at Michigan 3:30 CBS Ore -14.5
Oregon is rolling and Michigan passes like a high school team. If Oregon can go up a few scores early this one could get ugly. But if Mich can stay close, they do have a chance to wear down Oregon because they will not stop running until they have to.
Florida at 2 Georgia 3:30 ABC UGA -14.5
The world's largets outdoor cocktail party. Florida has improved each week and took Tenn to OT a few weeks ago. Georgia is hard to figure. They have all the talent but seem to sleepwalk then flip the switch to win. They got caught vs Bama. They could get caught again if they are flat vs Florida while looking ahead to Ole Miss and Tennessee in the next 2 weeks.
Texas Tech at 11 Iowa State 3:30 ESPN ISU -13.5
ISU looking to go 8-0 for the first time in program history. They need to stay unbeaten to stay on pace for the big 12 title game.
13 Indiana at Michigan State 3:30 Peacock IU -8
Indiana is having a great year but they are benefitting fromn a weak schedule. They do not play Oregon, Penn State, Illinois, Iowa, or Wisconsin. Their only renked opponent is Ohio State. But they have been blowing teams out so it's hard to judge them. They're good. But how good?
10 Texas A&M at South Carolina 7:30 ABC TAM -3
TAM is coming off the big upset against LSU where they unleashed backup QB Marcel Reed. South Carolina will have a week to prepare for Reed and find a weakness. He was the backup QB for a reason. TAM still has the showdown with Texas ahead so they can't afford a 2nd loss. SC has a 3 point loss to LSU and a 2 point loss to Bama. They're tough. TAM better not come out flat.
Louisville at 11 Clemson 7:30 ESPN
Clemson has looked good after the openeing week blowout against Georgia. But they haven't played anybody. Louisville has close losses to Notre Dame, SMU and Miami. They've been in some battles against good teams unlike Clemson.
Kentucky at 7 Tennessee 7:45 SEC Network Ten -17.5
Kentucky started hot, nearly beating Georgia and then getting the upset vs Ole Miss. Then they lost 3 straight. Tenn is coming off a bye after their upset of Bama. They still have Georgia on the schedule so they can't afford to take Kentucky lightly and come out flat.
18 Pitt at 20 SMU 8:00 ACC Network SMU -7
Pitt is ranked pretty low for being unbeaten but they haven't played anybody really good yet. Indiana hasn't either but they are blowing teams out. Pitt has had many close calls. The last time they were 7-0, Dan Marino was QB. They will have their chance to prove themselves vs SMU and stay alive for the ACC title game.
