College Football Week 7
It's good to have college football back after America's team, Penn State, was on a bye last week.
Massachusetts at 6 Penn State 3:30 BTN PSU-41.5
Penn State coming off the bye for their final tuneup before Ohio State next week. The PSU defense has been great. The offense is a work in progress. They've been good but not great.
The big plays have been lacking with verey few deep pass attempts. Part of that is they have struggled to find a #2 WR. Transfer Dante Cephas has only been on campus since Aug and is still learning the offense. He had a few wrong routes last game. Harrison Wallace was the #2 in camp but he's been injured. Hopefully the WRs can take a step forward after the bye.
UMass head coach is former Michigan DC Don Brown. He was on staff at Maryland with James Franklin. UMass is 1-6. They have some good skill players so they may put together a drive or 2.
3 Ohio State at Purdue 12:00 Peacock streaming OSU-19
This will be OSU's 3rd game in the state of Indiana this year (IU and ND). OSU has been up and down this year. OSU is only 3-5 at Purdue since 2000. Last time they played at Purdue was 5 years ago and #2 OSU got blown out 49-20. If they are looking ahead to Penn State, they could stumble a bit but I doubt it.
8 Oregon at 7 Washington 3:30 ABC Wash-3
both teams undefeated. Huge playoff implications. The winner is set up for a seat in the Pac 12 Championship. This will be the last PAC meeting of these 2 as they both move to the BIg 10 next year.
This game also matche 2 of the top Heisman candidates. Wash QB Michael Penix leads the nation in passing yards despite barely playing in any 4th quarters. He is the current Heisman favorite. Oregon QB Bo Nix is also a Heisman contender.
Texas A&M at 19 Tennessee 3:30 CBS Tenn-3
TAM faded late vs Bama just like they did against Miami. Their offense is struggling. Jimbo Fisher could be on the hot seat. Boosters paid a lot of money for the talent on the roster and so far have not gotten their return.
Tenn QB Joe Milton is streaky. This is the first of a tough 3 game stretch TAM, at Bama, then Kentucky. Tenn will be bringing out the checkerboard for the crowd for this one. The Tenn defense needs to show up and keep the TAM offense from getting going.
14 Louisville at Pitt 6:30 CW Network Lou-7.5
Louisville coming off the upset of Notre Dame. Pitt is 1-4 and needs to finisg 5-2 to get a bowl. Pitt will Penn State transfer Christian Veilleux his first start after Phil Jurkovec stunk up the joint in each game so far.
10 USC at 21 Notre Dame 7:30 NBC ND-3
Notre Dame struggles on offense and USC's defense sucks. A few weeks ago i thought ND had this in the bag but then that offense struggled against Duke and Louisville. Can they score 30 vs USC? I don't know which way this one will go. ND scores 30+ against a crappy USC defense and then hold down USC offense just enough to win. OR Caleb Williams goes nuts, the ND offense struggles again and they get blown out. With an over under of 60, Vegas has an implied score of ND 32 USC 29
25 Miami at 12 North Carolina 7:30 ABC UNC-3.5
Miami lost last week when instead of taking a knee, they ran a play and fumbled. Then they allowed GA Tech to score a few plays later. Miami has to be pissed. UNC's defense is pretty bad so maybe Miami can get that offense going.
Missouri at 24 Kentucky 7:30 SECN UK-2.5
both coming off their first loss last week. The winner could be in the running to finish 2nd in the SEC East and get a good bowl game.
18 UCLA at 15 Oregon State 8:00 FOX ORST-3.5
Chip Kelly is known for offense but he's doing it with defense this year at UCLA. The Pac 12 has no divisions. The top 2 teams meet for the Championship. This is a must win for each of these 1 loss teams if they want to stay alive for a Pac 12 title.
